Macworld has a review up on the Oki Data C5800Ldn LED printer. This printer is part of the new series that OKI introduced just two weeks ago. This color LED printer prints at a speed of up to 28 pages per minute (ppm) in black and 24 ppm in color. It has a single-pass engine and comes with standard networking.
Macworld writes:
The Oki Data C5800Ldn is an inexpensive color laser with many thoughtful extras like ICC color profiles and automatic duplexing— features not found in many competing products. It produces great looking photos and excellent black text. Unfortunately, its colored text printing was not as clean as its black text or as the color text from its competitors.

Canon introduces another series of laser multifunction devices, the Canon ImageCLASS MF6500 series. You might remember that Canon launched two other series of multifunction lasers last month, the imageCLASS MF7280 and MF8180c. The new MF6500 series comes in 4 flavors - the Canon imageCLASS MF6530, MF6550, MF6560 and MF6580 - ranging from a streetprice of $599 USD to $999 USD.
All four models are built on a monochrome laser engine, able to achieve printing speeds of up to 23 pages per minute. Each model comes equipped with a 500 sheet input tray and a 100 sheet multipurpose tray. Having this large an input capacity will prove to be quite convenient. All models have a 50 sheet (duplex) document feeder.
So what are the differences between the 4 models?
- The MF6530 has no faxing capabilities
- The MF6560 has limited fax memory (250 pages), the two high-end models both have memory for 1,000 pages
- The MF6580 also comes with a built-in print server allowing network connectivity. However, the other 3 models can be equipped with an optional external print server
You can find more details and specifications on their respective product pages:

The Tally Genicom 9035 - a rebranded Brother HL-8050n - is a monochrome laser printer capable of printing at speeds of up to 35 pages per minute. A while ago this laser printer was also reviewed by TrustedReviews who wrote that this monochrome laser printer is fast but sometimes lacks in quality, concluding that this printer was built for volume printing. The two paper trays can testify to that (550 + 150 sheets).
ITReviews also makes some small remarks about print quality but nevertheless writes:
The 9035 is a good, serviceable, workgroup printer, capable of handling many thousands of pages per month and of working with a number of different users at the same time. While its rated speed is a little optimistic, it’s still a fast machine and is cheap and easy to maintain.

Canon introduced two new laser multifunction devices, the Canon Color imageCLASS MF8180c, aimed at the small- and home office market and the Canon imageCLASS MF7280, advertised as a solution for the busy workgroup.

The Canon Color imageCLASS MF8180c (left) is built around a color laser engine that can print at speeds of up to 20 pages per minute (ppm) in black and 4 ppm in color, meaning it’s not a single-pass laser printer. Like every decent MFD it can scan, fax and copy, it also comes standard with network connectivity. It features a 150 sheet input cassette, a 150 sheet multipurpose tray and an automatic document feeder that can handle 50 sheets. It will be available this month (April 2006) and should set you back for about $799 USD. More details are available on the Canon Color imageCLASS MF8180c product page.
The second MFD that Canon introduced is the imageCLASS MF7280 (right), it has a monochrome engine capable of printing at speeds of up to 20 ppm. It comes with two 250 sheet input trays. It comes with a duplexer and network connectivity out-of-the-box and can print, fax, copy and scan. This one also comes with a 50 sheet document feeder. The unit is advertised with a street price of $3995 USD, which seems a bit expensive. The imageCLASS MF7280 is also available this month (April). More information is available at the imageCLASS MF7280 product page.

Infoworld compared two oversize color laser printers, the Ricoh Aficio CL7300D and the Xerox Phaser 7400DN. The Xerox Phaser 7400DN is actually a LED printer. Both are pretty high-end with advertised printing speeds between 35 and 40 pages per minute. Both also come with built-in network connectivity and a duplexer. Infoworld writes:
The new Ricoh and Xerox machines run fast, are a pleasure to operate, and generate creditable prints. But I uncovered some important differences. The Ricoh’s print quality is a smidgen better, but aggressive pricing from Xerox plus faster performance give the Phaser 7400DN a slight lead overall.

PC Magazine is doing more and more reviews of laser printers, almost 10 in two months now. This time they reviewed the Samsung ML-3561N, a monochrome network laser printer that was reviewed not that long ago by XYZ Computing. While the latter thought the ML-3561N was one of the best choices out-of-the-box, PC Magazine doesn’t seem to be too impressed and gives this Samsung laser printer merely a “fair” rating. PC Magazine writes:
Despite reasonably fast performance and more than acceptable output quality, the Samsung ML-3561N falls short. There are no serious flaws, but you can get more printer for less elsewhere.

PC Magazine just reviewed the newest lexmark laser printer, introduced in February 2006. The Lexmark E120n is a small - network-ready - monochrome laser printer, capable of printing at a speed of 20 pages per minute. PC Magazine gives this printer a “good” rating and writes:
With its small footprint, fast performance, and network connector, the Lexmark E120n is a good choice for sharing on a home or small-office network.

The Samsung SCX-4521F is one of Samsung’s laser multifunction printers, spitting out 20 pages per minute. The SCX-4521F is built on a monochrome laser printer engine but can, like every decent multifunction device, also fax, copy and scan. PC Magazine reports that the Samsung SCX-4521F has an input tray that supports only 150 sheets, without any option to increase this capacity. Apparently Samsung isn’t too excited about this either, since they ‘neglected’ to mention the input capacity on their specifications page.
PC Magazine nevertheless gives this MFP a good rating and writes:
For a small or home office with light-duty printing needs, the Samsung SCX-4521F offers plenty of functionality for printing, scanning, faxing, and copying.
